ScanBalt was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organization located in Copenhagen and is thus the first European Meta Cluster with an own operative structure. Networking organizations as well as universities, scientific institutes, representatives from economy and politics from the regions around the Baltic Sea have joined the ScanBalt network – the “Network of Networks”. The association boosts the development and the international cooperation of industry and academic institutions in the field of Life Sciences.

 

As a Meta region ScanBalt encompasses the complete Baltic Region (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Sweden, the North of Germany and the North-West of Russia) with 63 universities and more than 870 Life Science businesses with more than 60,000 employees and is today the biggest European Network in Life Sciences. From North Germany, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin are actively involved in the development of this Meta cluster.
